Mesothelioma Compensation Case Study
Widow Receives Six-figure Sum in Compensation
Last year, Grieves Solicitors helped Mrs C, the widow of a mesothelioma sufferer, to recover a six-figure sum in compensation as a result of the mesothelioma he contracted through his exposure to asbestos at Yorkshire Water.
In the 1960s Mr C began work as an apprentice plumber working in mills and other premises to install, maintain and repair pipes, boilers and heating systems which were lagged with asbestos.
In the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, he came into contact with asbestos again whilst working at Yorkshire Water where he had to cut, repair and maintain underground piping made of asbestos.
He was not warned by his employers about the dangers of asbestos or provided with any respiratory protection.
Mr C started to develop breathing difficulties around Christmastime 2007 and on 22nd August 2008, he was diagnosed with fatal asbestos-related mesothelioma.
Sadly, Mr C passed away in September 2009 from this dreadful asbestos-related disease.
Helen Grieves, of Grieves Solicitors, was instructed to bring a claim against his former employer and a successful settlement was reached without the need to issue court proceedings.
The widow’s reaction to the compensation settlement
Thanks for all your help and understanding … Nothing will compensate for the loss of G and I hope all these needless deaths will make employers look much more at health and safety in the future.
